Can we have the Live Share Extension on IDX
I've been teaching students using IDX these days, more or less for fun and also to test how well the IDX AI performs w.r.t React.js. A feature that I use sometimes on the local machine is Live Share extension.
A brief description of the extension -
The Live Share Extension on VSCode enables other dev to work on the same instance of VSCode on multiple files, which is extremely useful when creating small scale projects.
I understand that it is developed by a different company (Microsoft) but it will be helpful specifically for teaching purposes.

ydata-profiling pre-installed for data analysis
Many times it is needed to work with data, either to build a ML system or test applications. ydata-profiling is the best way to analyse data and it would be great to have it pre-installed already and part of the system.

Bookmarks
Bookmarks for Gemini Assistant while working on a project. Like if im working on a feature for app and i have to complete 3 tasks/steps to complete that feature, while working on step 1( which my require fixing errors etc.) other steps gets lost in the chat and require scrolling back and further. A cool feature would be to bookmark certain messages/plans/steps so we can refer back and insert quickly into Gemini chat.

Branching (Pivoting) own apps & Remixing publicly shared boilerplates
Add ability to branch / pivot off from an app's position (not like a feature branch but a whole pivot), and also allow public sharing with a feature to allow users to remix from that app. Boilerplate marketplace too, please :D

Would like Project IDX workspace to show edit history with character by character edits.
We will be using Project IDX to have students code websites. We used a previous website that we can no longer use. It was helpful to show the edit history so we could help students find their errors.
The character by character edit history was also helpful for us to detect plagiarism and see when they were just copying and pasting a peer's code which happened and we were able to address it before it continued on to other projects.

Pause button for Gemini responses
I suggest that Gemini has a pause button while it's thinking so you can start reading responses instead of having to wait until it's done since the responses keep scrolling the screen.

IDX should support third-party repositories
IDX should support third-party repositories, not only GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket. I cannot work on the code hosted on self-hosted Gitea repository

Support for Gradio and Streamlit web applications
Given Project IDX's focus on being integrated with generative ai — project templates for Gradio and Streamlit to demo ML/Gen AI systems would be a great addition to the currently available templates. Both as standalone templates and frameworks for Google's Gemini API template.
This can also be a great opportunity to showcase Google's generative ai models via Gradio/Streamlit.
Note: My idea is intended to use Python as the primary language (specific to Gradio since there's also a JS (
@gradio/atoms)). Though the potential for polyglot Gradio and Streamlit projects should also be supported, respective to the framework. For example,…4 votes
